Nate Merritt for Medford City Council
This is a new low to say the least. Another example of you working for the government, instead of it working for you.
Also speaks to our real financial situation, which I am calling for an independent (with new auditors) audit of.
First is understanding the motivation for this new policy.
City employees who are working at city hall shouldn’t have to pay to go to work, but could park in the upper lot and be given stickers/mirror tags that identify their vehicles to any parking enforcement. It’s cheaper and easier to do that than special validation. Tags are cheap. Numbers ID the vehicle/employee. Private companies and even the State of MA does this all the time.
Many of our elderly citizens who have business at City Hall, even though they aren’t necessarily handicapped, shouldn’t have to walk farther across the street to get inside the building to do city business. And with the new rotary changes, that street is a ![]()
.
Not to mention the principle of residents having to pay parking in order to go pay a bill, ask a question, etc in our city.
This seems to be in alignment though with the new policy of some tax paying residents having to pay for their own trash removal…
Validating parking for City Hall business would require extra equipment in order to process said validated sticker. We don’t need more gates and more expensive hardware to do this.
We need to work smarter and think things through. Not spend more $.
Final thought, what’s the “new policy” for parking going to be once construction starts for the new buildings being put in these very parking lots (including the upper lot)?
