• Home owners and residents alike are pleased to announce the running of the Independent candidates. The following group of residents below are running for Medford City Council. It was not necessary to sign a anti-corruption document. Such a document is not enforced and similar to the other accomplishments of “our revolution” they are clearly symbolic with no weight behind the measure. The independent candidates are beholden to their neighbors and the residents of Medford.

The Independent candidates are also progressive in their views as well. What separates these candidates are a willingness to actually speak to the residents of Medford.

Among the items on their platform are:

    • Support for updating the zoning ordinance
    • Restore city council meetings back to a weekly cadence
    • City wide/ward representation
    • Work on actual issues that affect the city of Medford directly

A slate style council is not beneficial for either city hall or the candidates themselves as “our revolution” cannot act or vote differently if they do not agree on a resolution. “our revolution” is actually the very opposite of the very platform they choose to communicate. The council is not diverse if a block of councilors always vote the same way. This does not foster healthy debate among the councilors, nor does it help foster a healthy relationship to the city.

The length of the city hall meetings is not ideal for any resident wishing to follow along. One can’t help if this is by design. It is irresponsible for the “our revolution” team to vote into the very late hours on a resolution. Worse still is to have a public comment period at 11pm. A majority of people in this city work real jobs for a living, they couldn’t possibly stay up to watch these marathon meetings. The current council’s response is that residents can watch it on cable access or online. This is simply a lazy solution that is not in the best interest of the city.

Medford needs a way forward, more importantly, active engagement with its residents are paramount if the city is truly to evolve. The information on these candidates are available on this website or by checking out the videos on youtube in our Medford Happenings channel – https://www.youtube.com/@medfordhappenings

These candidates are approachable, please voice your concerns and don’t be afraid to speak to them. They want to hear from you!

  • City Council hopefuls Patrick Clerkin and Paul Donato Jr. (L-R) along with Director Pam Kelly

This afternoon both Patrick Clerkin and Paul Donato Jr joined forces to serve up slush for the seniors at the Medford Senior Center on Riverside drive. This was certainly a special day for the seniors as not only were Patrick and Paul present but Donato’s father Paul Sr was in attendance along with Representative Katherine Clark, Representative Christine P. Barber and Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn.

(L-R) Donato Sr., Rep Clark, Donato Jr and Lungo-Koehn far right

The seniors were appreciative that Donato Jr and Clerkin were able to serve up slush on this warm Summer day. Despite the high caliber of politicians in attendance, today was about food, music and enjoyment. The Mystic Valley Elder Services celebrated its 50th anniversary! August 14th will now be known as The Mystic Valley Elder Services Day! However it is worth noting as Paul Jr was leaving the Senior Center for the Farmer’s market, he got a rousing send off. People remember the small things like this and today’s event played to the strength of both Clerkin and Donato.

This was a busy day for Paul as he left the Senior Center, he made a bee-line to the Farmer’s Market at the Condon Shell. This man is like his politics. He’s a hard worker and is not afraid to take on challenges. He hopes that his hard work pays off and he gains a seat at the city council this coming year.

Patrick Clerkin continued his work at the Senior Center after Donato left. This pairing was actually perfect, like Donato, Clerkin is also not afraid of hard work. He is currently the only candidate to have canvassed 6 out of the 10 Medford wards. His pins and business cards are ubiquitous. He is hoping that his work too, will be enough to also land him a spot on city council this fall. What is important here today was that this showed two candidates who showed they are capable of not only working together but supporting each other in their bids for the council. For more information on each candidate, check out their websites:
